A long time ago (2023) in a galaxy far, far away (Austin, TX), a serial fiction indie author was venting to her husband, Jacob, about the Patreon reading experience. The app is clunky, navigation is a nightmare, and Patreon isn’t in a hurry to make any improvements.
Patreon focuses on podcasts, videos, games, music, comics—what feels like everything except for serial writing.
His wife was upset, and Jacob decided to take action.
So our app began… as a gift!
With the help of his sister Meredith, a computer science wizard, he began working on an app his wife could share with her subscribers. It was initially meant to be something small—an e-reader that synced with Patreon so she could provide a better experience without adding to her existing workflow.
Jacob began researching this issue, and he realized the problem was so much larger than he knew. Thousands of Patreon users, authors and readers alike, are upset with the reading experience and looking for a fix. The project quickly took a life of its own.
Cereal Reads was created, but we decided to do things differently.
We work with Patreon to improve the reading experience. Authors can organize their hundreds of posts into easily manageable e-books, display beautiful cover photos, descriptions, and book tags to draw new readers in, and, overall, improve subscriber retention.
Unlike Wattpad, Inkitt, or many other industry giants, Cereal Reads is a platform built to uplift indie authors. There are no expensive coins required to unlock chapters or third-party ads, and we don’t interfere with the author/reader relationship.
Our mission is simple: to empower authors and readers to connect, to share, and to create unforgettable experiences together.
